A Review - Tuesdays with Morrie

The book *Tuesdays with Morrie* by Mitch Albom is a profound account which expresses the rekindled relationship between the author and his former sociology professor, Morrie Schwartz, during the final months of Morrie’s life, who is diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. As Morrie’s nears the end of his life, his spirit, wisdom, and compassion flourish, transforming his slow death into a masterclass in living.

Every Tuesday Mitch, burdened by the rush of career and material pursuits, sits at the feet of a man who has stripped life down to its essence. Together, they explore life’s profound themes - love, work, aging, family, forgiveness, and finally, death. The narrative dismantles societal illusions - ambition as identity, wealth as worth, and  amassing luxury as purpose. Morrie’s teachings are neither preachy nor theoretical. They emerge from his vulnerability and the raw honesty of impending death. He speaks not as a preacher, but as a human being fully embracing his fragility. He insists that death is not the enemy, but a mirror reflecting what truly matters. To Morrie, the tragedy is not dying, but living without love, without meaning, and without presence.

The narrative is simple and sincere. Albom does not romanticize suffering, but lets the tenderness of human connection shine through. As Morrie’s body weakens, his realizations become more poignant. He cries openly, laughs freely, and teaches Mitch that being emotionally open  is not weakness, but wisdom. In a world obsessed with self -preservation and self-worth, Morrie teaches surrender to the ones you love - not as defeat, but as grace.

The recount culminates in the realization that time is not measured in productivity, but in depth of presence. Morrie’s legacy is not found in awards, trophies, tales or accolades, but in the lives he touches through conversation, compassion, and courage. The final goodbye is not an end, but a transformation. Morrie dies, but his wisdom, his words , his endurance and his feelings linger on...

The book makes me want to reorient my life before I run out of time. It whispers a timeless truth which I always believed  in , that the purpose of life is not to achieve, but to connect, and  not to endure life, but to embrace it, even to the last breath. Till there's life, we create, we dream, we hope and we exist....
