Julie and Julia

Watched a movie “Julie and Julia” last night...

Never thought that a movie will appeal to me so much. The plot was about a American housewife Julia whose husband Paul is posted in France; he works for the US government. Julia was too tall by conventional standards, and was a social misfit. So was her sister Dorothy. After marriage, she developed a passion for cooking and ended up writing MASTERING THE ART OF FRENCH COOKING which has become an encyclopaedia of sorts. In the 1970s and 1980s, she was the star of numerous television programs too.

Come to circa 2002, and there is one young working wife Julie Powell. To spice up her mundane life, she blogs and decides to try out each of Julia’s recipes within a span of one year. The movie deals with Julie’s life over that one year when she discovers new aspects of her life through cooking and reinvents herself.

I love Maryl Streep, especially after her sensitive portrayal as Francesca in THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY....Her role as Julia Child was perfect, realistic.

I think you would have loved watching the movie..It is not fast paced though..But has an easy rhythm which is comfortable and believable.

At 2:45 am, the movie ended..and I was left wondering whether I should  start learning French culinary skills!!
