Random thoughts….
All these years I envied those friends who were homemakers. Getting up in time to get ready for a busy day ahead in the hospital, the hectic schedule and after coming back home, a regular outing with the kids and the daily shopping…….this has been my routine for years now. It was a jumbled basket of multiple taskmaking that defined my life. Even an hour of solitude to wonder or just linger away was a luxury which I found difficult to manage.
I used to envy the female friends who did not work outside. Their leisure hours, the time they get to spend with family, the beautifully managed get togethers at home (while I have to rush home and rustle up dishes hurriedly if I have guests for dinner), all these used to make me long for a life like theirs. My quiet husband warned me that I will find that type of lifestyle very difficult. But I thought otherwise.
With two energetic boys aged four and a half and two years respectively and with my in-house help declaring the need for a long deserved break to visit her family, I decided that it was high time I took a break. And when my boss at my workplace was more than willing to forward my leave application for three months, I was euphoric. I thanked God for the BOSS who is made of the stuff that dreams are made of! And off I was with my suitcases packed for three months to Guwahati where my husband is working at present.
And now, midway through this break, I have come to believe one thing – the grass is always greener on the other side. With my right hand disabled (read my domestic help who is enjoying her holiday) and the boys at their mischievous best and their father with soaring expectations of a hearty breakfast, lunch and dinner every day, I no longer feel jealous of homemakers. Oh! I do not even have time to go out on my own now. Managing a home is not easy. I extend my sincere apologies to all those friends whom I used to ‘envy’. The day vanishes in a whish, and the nights are a sojourn of deep slumber. No hanging out with friends, no time to roam around…
Thus, the bottom-line is that no task is easy. Whatever we do and whatever we have, we must learn to make the best of that and give our best shot. I am scheduled to join my duty on the third week of July, and till then……………….
